Unlawful combatant

The term unlawful combatant (also unlawful enemy combatant or unprivileged combatant/belligerent) denotes people denied the protection of the Geneva Conventions; those to whom protection is recognised as due are referred to as lawful combatants. An unlawful combatant is accorded neither the rights a soldier would normally have under the laws of war, nor the civil rights an accused criminal would have.
