Virtue, liberty, and independence
Virtue, Liberty, and Independence was adapted in 1875 as Pennsylvania's official motto. It was taken from the Coat of Arms of Pennsylvania, andit represents the fact that Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, specifically) was the site where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
