Voivodeships of Poland

The voivodeship or province (Polish: wojewĂłdztwo) has been a second-level administrative unit in Poland since the 14th century. Pursuant to the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998, effective January 1, 1999, 16 new provinces were created, replacing the former 49 provinces that had existed from July 1, 1975.
