Vital Center

United States politics, the Vital Center is a term used to describe where the Presidential nominees of the two major political parties go to look for votes, traditionally after they have wrapped up their own party's nomination at the party convention. This is based on the concept that the nominees have each secured the support of their own party's rank-and-file activists and now must go out in search of additional voters which, when added to the base, will result in sufficient support to win the election in November.
