VHS

The Vertical Helical Scan, better known by its abbreviation VHS (and often confused to be Video Home System) is a recording and playing standard for analog video cassette recorders (VCRs), developed by Victor Company of Japan, Limited, aka JVC, and launched in September 1976. "IEEE History Center: Development of VHS" accessed December 28, 2006, cites the original name as "Video Home System", from an article by Yuma Shiraishi, one of its inventors
