Václav Prokop Diviš



Václav Prokop Diviš (, spelling variants Divisch or Diwisch) (born 26 March, 1698 in Helvíkovice nad Orlicí [German: Helkowitz an der Wilden Adler], Bohemia, now in the Czech Republic), today part of Žamberk nad Orlicí [German: Senftenberg in Böhmen] – died 25 December, 1765 in Přímětice [German: Brenditz], today part of Znojmo [German: Znaim in Mähren], Moravia, now in the Czech Republic) was a Czech theologian and natural scientist who invented the lightning rod between 1750 and 1754 independently of Benjamin Franklin, and constructed the first electrified musical instrument in history, the so-called Denis d'or.
