War tourism

War tourism, which refers to recreational travel to war zones for purposes of sightseeing and deliberate culture shock, is perhaps the most dangerous (and thrilling) form of extreme tourism. During the 2006 Israel-Lebanon crisis, for example, Beirut has played host to many tourists from Europe and the Mediterranean, most of whom were forced to scurry across the border from Syria due to Israel's de facto blockade on the free movement of goods and peoples in and out of the country.
