Western Europe
Western Europe in its most common understanding is a socio-political concept coined and used during the Cold War. Its boundaries were effectively forged during the final stages of World War II and came to encompass all European countries which were not occupied by the Soviet army and subsequently did not fall under control of communist regimes.
