Walden inversion

In chemistry Walden inversion is the inversion of configuration of a chiral centre in a molecule in a chemical reaction. It is encountered in for example a SN2 reaction at a tetrahedral carbon atom and the inversion can best be visualised by imagining an umbrella turned inside-out in a gale.
