Xerox Alto
The Xerox Alto, developed at Xerox PARC in 1973, was an early minicomputer and the first computer to use the desktop metaphor and graphical user interface (GUI). While often cited as the first personal computer, some earlier systems like the Datapoint 2200 fit the term at least as well.
