Zvi Hermann Schapira
Zvi Hermann Schapira (1840-1898) was a Russian mathematician and Zionist born in Erswilken, near Tauroggen, a small town in Lithuania. Educated for the rabbinate, he had been appointed to a rabbinical position at the age of twenty-four, when he decided to devote the rest of his life to the cultivation of the secular sciences.
