Zambian presidential election, 1991

The Zambian presidential election of 1991 saw the defeat of Kenneth Kaunda, who had led the country since independence, by Frederick Chiluba. Kaunda had been forced to allow the existence of opposition parties by international aid donors who made their support for debt relief and continued aid conditional on it.
