In northeastern Brazil (Rio Grande do Norte, ParaĂba,Pernambuco, and Bahia), the Zona da Mata (in Portuguese, "forest zone") refers to the narrow coastal plain between the Atlantic Ocean and the dry regions of the agreste and sertĂŁo.
